Essay: What is Robber Baron

In the 19th century, the term Robber baron was used to describe a powerful businessman and banker (Josephson, 1934). The term now relates to any businessman or banker who has put in a lot of effort into his business and because of his endless determination and become successful and wealthy. The term was coined from the German Lords who illegally used to charge a very big toll on the ships passing through the Rhine.

This term was however made popular in the United States during the industrial revolution to give credit to those businessmen who went an extra mile in making their businesses prosperous with the resources that they had (Josephson, 1934).
