Throughout the year Egypt has a consistently warm and a dry weather. The summers are mainly very hot dry whereas the winters are colder and usually have slight rains. It hardly rains in Egypt and unfortunately the Mediterranean which has the maximum rains records only up to 8 inches of rain throughout the year. Egyptians experience very hot and dry winds throughout April and May and these winds are called Khamsin.
Holidays
Islamic customs are reflected in the holidays customary to the Egyptians, such as a month of Ramadan (in which Muslims don’t eat or drink from sunrise to sunset. Another prominent holiday is Hegiro, which is in remembrance of Prophet Muhammed’s migration from Mecca to Medina. Other holidays include festivities such as Eid Al-Sagheer or Eid-ul-Fitr which is celebrated at the end of Ramadan, and Eid- ul-Azha or Eid Al-Kabeer which is celebrated as a feast of sacrifice to God and Mawlid Al-Nabi or Eid Milad-un-Nabi which celebrates Prophet Mohammed’s birthday (Thompson, 2008).
