Alzheimer’s is the most common form and cause and form of Dementia. Dementia is an illness characterized by the loss of cognitive functioning. It leads to the impairment in memory, thinking, reasoning, planning, perception and the use of language. It ultimately leads to the interference of a person’s daily life and activities.

The ability to carry out the simplest of tasks is rendered impossible.

The signs to watch out for as pertains to this disease include memory loss, language problems, difficulty in carrying out normal day to day lives, decreased judgment, , frequent mood swings and change in behaviour, difficulties in critical and creative thinking (Förstl and Kurz, 1999). These signs, together with other symptoms are subdivided into four stages of the disease in terms of progressive occurrence and intensity.
