The conflict perspective divides society into two halves. The two halves are in a constant struggle against each other to achieve the maximum benefit of their actions. They comprise of those individuals who are considered advantageous in society and those who are not. If we consider the perspectives of these two halves we find that the ones who are at an advantage will always strive to protect what they posses.

In contrast the ones at a disadvantage press on to gain more for them. It decries the views of functionalism and its requirement of a symbiosis between all of society’s institutions. It seeks to show the conflicts that are inherent to societal change and as such are never ending (Johnson & Rhodes, 2005).
