Essay: Deaths of children with HIV in the foster care system

Should the children then have been included in the study? In my opinion, yes. The drugs, though experimental, did have a positive impact on their lives, effectively reducing the number of deaths of children with HIV in the foster care system. As they did not have the money to buy these same drugs, the only way they could have gotten the drugs was through the trials.

However, their rights were certainly violated. The law clearly states that they should have been given an independent advocate to represent them. Neglecting to do this, for whatever reason the companies had was grossly unfair. They denied the children the opportunity to fight for their rights. Having an advocate ensures that at the very least, there will be someone looking out of their best interest when they so obviously cannot do it themselves.
