The Senate accepted an alteration relating the District of Columbia prohibition on firearms possession, and other limitations on guns. ACU held up the submission of the Second Amendment to the state’s capitol, and it was approved “February 26, 2009, by a ballot of 62-36” (THOMAS, 2009). The Senate approved a bill adding up 2 seats to the House of Representatives, one for the time being for Utah and one enduringly for the District of Columbia. ACU opposed this attempt on the basis that D.C. is not a state, but it was approved “February 26, 2009, by a ballot of 61-37” (THOMAS, 2009).

House Democratic Leader Steny Hoyer said, “A District of Columbia Voting Rights bill likely won’t come up soon, partly because of opposition to a Gun Amendment.”  (THOMAS, 2009)

The District has been for a long time waiting for the vote for passing this bill, but Metropolis leaders have articulated worries about the bill, which would eradicate the majority of the ‘District’s gun control law’ (THOMAS, 2009), and Hoyer held the amendment responsible for stopping the determination from going onwards.
