Essay: The Issue of Abortion
Sample Essay
In the case of rape and incest victims social utility requires that we consider the consequences of our actions weighing the merits against our principles. The merits themselves are few in number. A theologian and ethicist Dr. Michael Bauman observed that “a child does not lose its right to life simply because its father or its mother was a sexual criminal or a deviant.” These women have option of receiving psychological counselling for their attacks and giving up their child for adoption solving many of the issues relating to the woman’s mental anguish over the affair.
Conclusion:
Like any ethical dilemma it is essential to look at both sides of the issue and take them in context before endeavouring to see the moral quandary that is the issue of abortion. There is no simple answer which can satisfy both the rights of the unborn child and the rights of the individual woman to control her own body. Religious theology though providing an insight does not provide true solutions to the problems and neither does logic. The crux of this issue will not be solved until a focal point is reached where the rights of both the individual and the mother are preserved. However, we simply cannot deny the life of an unborn child no matter what the reason. A life is a life no matter how many scientific, logical or emotional ideas it is hidden behind. At the end of the day that should be the only thing that truly matters.
