Essay: King was a Courageous Man

King was a courageous man to take the risk of enlightening his race on such matters regardless of the looming danger and possible consequences. He achieved his purpose as the African-Americans were empowered to reclaim their position in the society.

After this speech there was the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963 and later the 1964 Civil Rights Act which banned all forms of discrimination based on race, religion, colour, sex or nationality. From that time access to employment, transport, housing and other public resources was granted to everyone. There was also freedom to vote and exercise one’s constitutional right (Hansen, 2003, p.177).
