This paper reflects on the issue of how the closure of Guantanamo Bay Prison will have negative effects on Homeland Security.

The issue of national security changed dramatically after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Securing the US people from outside threats of radical and fundamental groups has never been as important as it is now. However, in the face of such obvious threats to the nation, new US President Barack Obama has issued orders to close the Guantanamo Bay prison and reevaluate the prisoners to determine whether they deserve to be prosecuted, jailed or released (Mazzetti & Glaberson, 2009). According to Mazzetti and Glaberson (2009), the CIA has been given an ultimatum to close the detention center within a year from the time of issuance of the order. The rest of the paper presents reasons for the reader to understand the seriousness and short sightedness of the government which has been highlighted by the decision to close the detention center and how it will have serious consequences on US national security.
