In conducting my interviews with the professionals in the LCDC career field, I also sought to find out the best skills to possess in order to be successful in this field. Thus, I asked questions on just what exactly is expected of me in this field as a counselor. Speaking to these professionals, I got to find out that there are certain skills that are very important in this field.

Solid public speaking and interpersonal communication are among the most important skills in this career (Degreedirectory.org, 2011). These skills are very important for me as a chemical dependency counselor. It is important that I am also very passionate about helping people. In addition to these skills, as a counselor, I must also be able to effectively handle stressful situations that arise from the challenging addicts.
