Growing up in a predominantly white community instilled within me several perspectives and prejudices which were prominent in my social circle. I spent years adopting the viewpoint of the mainstreams and never questioned their motives and their perspectives.

I believed that my acceptance of these ideals made me part of their community, made me accepted within their ranks. I did not realize they harbored many of the same prejudices they had concerning others about me as well. They were simply not open about their opinions.
