Alpha is one of the major research ideas that are used widely and expansively to measure test reliability, being developed by an educational psychologist known as Lee Cronbach. This is because the reliability of assessments is an essential component of educational research that helps analyze the validity of the tests that are being carried out.Where originally the methods that are used in the educational measurement were built on the foundation of classical test theory, item response theory and Rasch models, these are now so popular that they are being used worldwide in other fields as well. It is considered a step ahead from the classic test theory, an advancement that goes as far as testing and creating the likes of major tests such as the Graduate Record Examination and Graduate Management Admission Test and Standard Admission test.
