If anyone ever doubted Walt Whitman likes for nature, then this poem would serve to demystify the fact. In numerous successful attempts, Whitman blends his whole being with nature in a manner that is both striking and interesting. He starts by asserting himself as an aspect of nature by saying, “For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you” (3). He goes on to assert this perception as indicated below.
He passionately describes his body as a state of nature, winding his blood and tongue to the soil and air. He indicates that they both are a product of Mother Nature, “Born here of parents born here from parents the same and their parents the same” (7). He describes how the distillation of nature fills his whole being, prompting him to a wild craze for a close touch with nature (17-20).
