As the time has progressed, the devices used for HCI interfacing devices are getting more ergonomic and more and more technology is being put on them. With the augmentation of AI in HCI interfacing devices already happening, the futurists are already pointing out the next generation of Human-Computer Interfacing. One of the areas that are actively being worked on is of Simulated Reality. The term simulated reality refers to the simulation of virtual world through computer which appears totally real.

This concept is an advanced form of currently achievable concept of virtual reality.  The difference between the two is that in virtual reality, the participants are never in doubt of the nature of their experience while in simulated reality; it would be very hard or impossible to distinguish it from true reality. In simulated reality, the object present in the virtual world can be interacted with in the same way that they would be in real life. Their behavior, properties and their interaction with the participant present in the simulated reality are controlled through Artificial Intelligence. Once of the best example of simulated reality has been given in the film “Matrix” in which Brain-Computer Interfacing was use to simulate a virtual world that was totally different from the real world.

Another concept which could materialize in the future is the augmentation of context aware computers in HCI. The current generation of intelligent HCI devices, though do the work that they are made for, but, lack the awareness of the environment in which it operates. Through augmentation of context aware AI into HCI devices and through the use of sensors, it would be possible for it to establish its current setting, hence, it would be able to take actions accordingly.  For example, a context aware device such as a mobile phone may know that it’s currently in the meeting room; hence the phone may conclude that the user is in a conference and thus may only allow important call to be received (Nebel & Lakemeyer, 2003).
