How did Voltaire define deism in the Philosophical Dictionary? How did this definition reflect the ideas of the Scientific Revolution?

Voltaire was quite a prominent deist. He explains that religion with pre-defined rules get in the way of human progress and freedom, thus being a deist; he denies the God’s intervention in the world and doesn’t encourages to obey the laws of religion. Scientific Revolution was brought by people who were researching at free-will and were not opposed to any circumstances by religious and spiritual entities that may hinder them.

b. In what ways were the moral teachings of deism different from, or similar to, the moral teachings in the Sermon on the Mount?

The Sermon on the Mount is said to be the word of Jesus. The moral teachings in the Sermon on the Mount differ from that of deism, since it teaches the existence of God and signifies its creations in terms of salt and light. It also states that seeking God’s kingdom should be prior to materialism and that God is always present and has not abandoned this universe. Jesus also promises the blessings from God to those who choose the scribed path of Jesus and his God (Palmer, 2009).
