ABBA was a Swedish pop group formed in 1972 with members Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. ABBA became one of the most successful commercial acts in the history of music from 1972 to 1982. At the Dome in Brighton, United Kingdom in 1974 ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest, giving Sweden a growing success. In fact, they were the most successful group who had ever taken part in the competition.

According to sources like CNN, it is stated that ABBA has sold over 300 million albums and singles worldwide. On the other hand, other sources like the Universal Music Group claim that the group has sold over 375 million records in January 2010. There is no precise estimate of a number of albums ABBA has sold. They are also ranked right after Beatle as the second best-selling music group. ABBA was the first foreigners to succeed such an unbreakable frame. Their demand was high in United Kingdom, Ireland, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Latin American and South Africa.

ABBA made videos because their music was such a hit in various countries that they were not able to go for personal visits.During their success years, 1972-1982 Faltskog and Ulvaeus and Lyngstad and Andersson were married. At the peak of their success and fame, both the couples parted their ways, which was reflected in their music. The much lively and joyful songs and lyrics transformed into dark and gloomy lyrics.

ABBA ended in 1982 Andersson and Ulvaeus gained much success as songwriters, whereas Lyngstad and Faltskog pursued in different careers with high and lows. The permanent break of ABBA caused the music to decline along with their existence. However, the movie Muriel’s wedding (1994) and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994) created a great hype and revived the public interest in the group. Their music was taken from movies like the “Mamma Mia!”

They were honored at the 50th-anniversary celebration of Eurovision Song Contest in 2005, the same year when their song “Waterloo” was chosen as the best song in the competition history. However, no may people know about them, whereas some wish for them to come back. On 15 March 2010, ABBA was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Bee Gees.
