Instead, the medical staff should represent the diversity of people they offer services for. Diversity is important in virtually every field. Doctors and other health care professionals from diverse communities and backgrounds hold their distinctive experiences to share with colleagues and patients in health care.

It can hinder or discourage them from seeking treatment when a patient can not locate clinicians who resemble them, their values, their culture, or other aspects of their life. Where there is little diversity, finding medical treatment can make it more daunting for some patients. Growing the diversity of health care providers can help to remove these obstacles encountered by certain patients when seeking care and can also lead to a better level of care for everyone.
